Redwing Ecological Surveys Ltd acquires Stagfire Ecological Surveys

1 Mar 2024

Inverness, 6th March 2024 – Redwing Ecological Surveys Limited (Redwing) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Stagfire Ecological Surveys (Stagfire), a respected specialist provider of ornithological and ecological surveys and services based in the Scottish Highlands.

Redwing, headquartered in Inverness, is founded by a team of four individuals including three passionate ecologists, all of whom have a history of working with Stagfire. Phil Golder, Ian Perks and Robin Reid bring over 50 years of experience in ornithological surveying, research and conservation management. Richard Taylor complements the team with 25 years of experience gained in senior finance and commercial roles.

This transition is a testament to the shared vision and values of both companies, aimed at ensuring that the vital services provided to date by David Lambie and his team at Stagfire continue. The acquisition includes the purchase of all ecological survey trade and assets of Stagfire, ensuring a seamless transition for the existing team, clientele and ongoing projects. Redwing is committed to maintaining the high standard of service that Stagfire’s clients have come to expect, with an emphasis on continuity and excellence. The new company will trade under both names for a period of time whilst full transition takes place during 2024.

As part of the acquisition, Stagfire's employees will be transitioning to the new organisation under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE), ensuring job security and a familiar team to continue supporting clients without interruption. David will remain involved particularly in the first 12 months and the wider team will continue to be headed up by Neil Robertson Operations Manager.

Redwing co-founder Phil Golder said, "I am thrilled that we have managed to complete this acquisition, and we now have a busy first season ahead of us. We have a long shared commitment to environmental stewardship, and a great team of staff and directors looking to build on a strong legacy created by David with Stagfire. We are also excited to be working with existing and new clients on a diverse suite of projects".

"It was a very difficult decision to transition away from Stagfire but doing so has been made much easier knowing that the services it provides continue in the hands of new owners that share so many similar aspirations for it" said David Lambie of Stagfire.

Redwing looks forward to building upon the solid foundation laid by Stagfire and to continuing to serve the ecological needs of its clients, strengthened by the addition of our founding team.
